Resi Framer
Resi Framer
Want instant structural engineering feedback? Turn an architectural model/CAD file into a structural residential timber frame design and bracing design check directly via a web page.
Instructions:
Upload an Architectural Model in Rhino (.3dm) format with the 'Choose file' button below
View the resulting timber frame and bracing design in 3D or download the model
What this aims to deliver:
Builds a structural model from your Architectural CAD file
Designs all timber floor members
Checks the buildings bracing design
NEW: Auto-Framer. No need to have pre-drawn structure in your file.
Notes:
Remember: Rhino can convert many types including AutoCAD, ArchiCAD etc. or you can export from Revit.
Works best if the uploaded model has had electrical, mechanical, plumbing and landscaping etc. removed.
Walls used for bracing should be modelled as solid elements.
Braced Walls are colour coded Red (fail) and then from Light Red (pass) to Green (easy pass). If no bracing is present where needed, a red arrow will indicate a zone requiring additional braced walls. Grey walls are not wide enough to be effective as bracing.
Bracing check is conservative and based on Australian wind design. Note that your engineer may require less bracing than indicated by this app if wind gusts in your area are lower. This check is not suitable for small regions near the coast of Northern Australia which are classed as cyclonic.
Designs should be considered 80% stage. Some current limitations include:
Cantilevers
Beams below walls

Not getting any output?:
Your file might be too large. Files are currently limited to 8MB max. To get large file sizes have a look at Struc Scripts.
There might be too many items in the file. There is currently a limit of 8000 items in a file max.
In very rare occurrences, an item in a file may cause a problem. We would love to hear if this happens to you so we can address this.
